Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from Spirit continues to spark debate, with conflicting accounts emerging about what led to the development. While Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s brother Pranay cited remuneration, scheduling and other issues, a source close to Deepika has claimed that the actress never received a full narration and was never formally considering the project.

Amid ongoing chatter about Deepika’s exit, a source close to the actress told Hindustan Times, “Deepika Padukone has met Sandeep Reddy Vanga all of once in her life. Not to mention, the filmmaker arrived a whole hour late to the meeting! Deepika took the rest of the meeting professionally. In the meeting, only a one-liner of the film was shared. She didn’t receive a full narration of the film. Deepika never commits to a project without receiving a full narration. So, Spirit was never a part of Deepika’s consideration set to begin with. Sandeep Reddy Vanga is the kind of filmmaker Deepika Padukone would never collaborate with, given his misogynist nature.”
This comes after Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s brother Pranay revealed to NDTV that Deepika exited the project due to remuneration, scheduling and other issues. He said, “The reason is the same as what was already mentioned. One was remuneration, the second was timing. Apart from that, there are some other reasons too.” Sandeep was keen to cast the actress and had been in touch with her for 1.5 years. He added, “She demanded 10 per cent of the film’s profit.”

It may be recalled that the makers had initially considered Deepika Padukone for the role of the female lead in the film. However, with disagreements erupting over pay and working hours, the makers chose to cast Triptii Dimri as the female lead.
Meanwhile, Spirit continues with Prabhas and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles under Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s direction. The makers have maintained that the film remains on track for its announced March 5, 2027, release date. Actor Vivek Oberoi is also a part of the film. Apart from Spirit, Deepika was also ousted from Kalki 2, which also stars Prabhas.
