National Award-winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar, who passed away on Saturday, was cremated with full State honours at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam district in Kerala. His last rites were held in the presence of family members, colleagues, political leaders and admirers. At the funeral, the actor`s eldest son, Chandu, lost his cool at the paparazzi.

In videos now surfacing on social media, actor Chandu was seen lashing out at the paparazzi, who were crowding around the grieving family. The Lokah: Chapter 1 actor was seen demanding that they step back and give the family space to pay their final respects.

As family members and friends gathered at the late actor`s residence to pay their final respects, the place grew crowded with paparazzi with their cameras, covering the funeral. Several members of the Malayalam film industry, including actors Meera Jasmine, Sandeep Pradeep and more, were also present to pay their final tribute to Salim Kumar. Amid this, Chandu Salimkumar was seen lashing out at the paparazzi, questioning them about what they wanted.

National Award-winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar died while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at a private hospital, family sources said. He was 56 at the time of his death. Kumar passed away at around 10.43 pm on Saturday. The actor underwent a liver transplant a few years ago. He was admitted to the hospital earlier on Saturday and was placed on ventilator support.
In an official statement, the Kerala government stated that it had learnt with “profound grief” of the demise of the acclaimed actor. As a mark of respect, the state government also decided to accord police honours during the funeral and also bear the expenses connected with the funeral and related arrangements.
At the funeral, the District Collector placed a wreath on the mortal remains on behalf of the Government of Kerala, while the District Police Chief made arrangements for police honours, including a bugle salute.
Salim Kumar was known for his remarkable versatility across comedy and character roles and was one of the most celebrated actors in Malayalam cinema. The actor`s passing away has left the film industry and his admirers mourning the loss.
