Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has been making headlines for months. After awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since January, the film is now rumoured to be releasing worldwide on July 24. Amid this, new reports suggest that the film could arrive in India earlier than the rest of the world to enjoy an extended four-day opening weekend.
Jana Nayagan to arrive early in India?
While the makers have not yet officially announced the release date of Jana Nayagan in India, the film’s UK distributor, Ahimsa Entertainment, earlier confirmed a July 24 overseas release via an X post. Reports now claim that the film may open in Indian theatres on July 23.
The speculation has heightened the excitement among fans, especially since the film completed its censor formalities. For the unversed, Jana Nayagan has been given an A certificate by the CBFC. The film has been cleared with a reported runtime of 3 hours and 3 minutes.
The possibility of the film releasing on July 23 first surfaced after overseas distributors were reportedly asked to prepare for a July 24 rollout. Industry trackers even indicated that the film could be released a day earlier in India. Notably, this is a strategy often utilised by major Tamil films to maximise opening weekend collections.
If the July 23 date is officially finalised, Jana Nayagan could enjoy a four-day opening weekend before the regular working week begins. As a result, Vijay’s last film could get more time to benefit from advance bookings and fan celebrations.
