Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is already creating a frenzy months ahead of its release. After the makers confirmed a worldwide theatrical release on July 23, 2026, the film’s Canada distributor announced a phased advance booking strategy, with VIP members receiving exclusive early access. This comes days after the UK distributor claimed that thousands of tickets were sold as soon as the release date was confirmed.
Jana Nayagan’s VIP access in Canada
York Cinemas, the distributor of Jana Nayagan in Canada, issued a statement on Wednesday announcing that advance bookings would open in stages. During the first 24 hours, exclusive booking access will be reserved for VIP members—those who had previously purchased tickets and are yet to receive refunds. On the second and third days, bookings will continue to prioritise VIP members. The general public will be able to purchase tickets only after the VIP-exclusive booking window concludes.

Meanwhile, Ahimsa Entertainment, the film’s UK distributor, claimed that thousands of tickets were sold within the first 60 minutes of advance bookings opening, highlighting the massive overseas demand for Vijay’s swansong.
On Tuesday, July 15, Vijay unveiled a fiery new poster announcing release date of the film, in which he is seen as a cop sporting a police uniform and wearing sunglasses. Sharing it on X, he simply wrote, “JanaNayaganFromJuly23.”
More about Jana Nayagan
Jana Nayagan was initially expected to hit the screens on January 9, ahead of the Pongal weekend. However, the release date was postponed due to legal proceedings involving the censor certificate. The case was taken to the Madras High Court, followed by multiple hearings and delays. In the meantime, the HD version of the film was also leaked online, sparking another controversy.
Amid all the controversies and delays, the film was recently cleared by the CBFC with an A certificate and over 12 cuts, including the removal of sensitive religious and political references and scenes. The film is also expected to open with a special title slate reading, “The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C. Joseph Vijay,” acknowledging Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay in the lead alongside Pooja Hegde. The cast also features Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain in pivotal roles.
