Jailer 2: Madras HC bans unauthorised online screenings of Rajinikanth-starrer

The Madras High Court has stepped in to protect Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and Shivarajkumar’s Bail from unauthorised online screenings ahead of their theatrical releases. The interim order comes amid concerns over film piracy, with producers seeking to safeguard their copyrights. Meanwhile, Jailer 2 is gearing up for its October 15 release.
Madras HC protects against unauthorised exhibition
The Madras High Court has granted interim protection against the unauthorised online exhibition of Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 and Shivarajkumar’s Bail, restraining their illegal screening on websites and other digital platforms. The order aims to protect the producers’ copyrights ahead of the films’ theatrical releases.
According to a report in The Hindu, Justice PB Balaji passed the interim injunction following separate suits filed by the producers of the two films. Sun TV Network’s counsel, Rahul Balaji, urged the court to issue the order at the earliest, pointing out that Jailer 2 was scheduled to release in two days. He argued that big-ticket films are often uploaded illegally to digital platforms within 30 minutes of their global theatrical release. The court accepted the request, with the order also intended to be communicated to telecom service providers.
In April, Jailer 2 was leaked online, sparking concern in the Tamil film industry. The makers urged fans and the media to avoid sharing clips, warning that their anti-piracy team was tracking and would take action against offenders.
About Jailer 2
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The film is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner and features an ensemble cast, including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa. A few days ago, the film was cleared by the CBFC with a U/A certificate ahead of its release on October 15.
Ticket sales are also seeing a solid response, and the movie’s worldwide pre-sales for day one are already closing in on the Rs 30-crore mark in worldwide advance bookings. The high-octane action sequel is set to hit theatres on October 15. Andhra Pradesh has approved a temporary price hike for seven days, from October 15 to 21. The order allows single-screen theatres to charge Rs 50 above the usual admission rate, while multiplexes can add Rs 75 to their standard ticket price.
