Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 landed in trouble after a careening at theatre in Tamil Nadu. A controversy has erupted at Ajantha Ellora Cinemas on Coimbatore Road in Karur, Tamil Nadu, after a film song was allegedly played instead of the National Anthem while the Indian National Flag was displayed on screen before a movie screening. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, with moviegoers alleging disrespect to the National Anthem.
Jailer 2 screening sparks controversy
The incident reportedly took place a day ago at the theatre, where Rajinikanth’s film Jailer 2 was being screened. As per the usual practice, the National Flag was displayed on the screen before the movie began. However, instead of playing Jana Gana Mana, a commercial film song was played.

More about Jailer 2
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, reunites the filmmaker with Rajinikanth following their 2023 film Jailer. Produced by Sun Pictures, the sequel was released worldwide on October 15. The film features an ensemble cast, including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Jailer 2 surpassed the Rs 600 crore milestone in worldwide gross collections within eight days of its release, outperforming Leo and Jailer to become the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.
This comes after screenings were halted at York Cinemas in Canada. The Canadian exhibitor of Jailer 2, York Cinemas, announced the development in a statement. Explaining its issue with the distributors and producers of Jailer 2, the exhibitor wrote, “Although York Cinemas has fulfilled all required financial commitments and payments, the valid KDMs (Key Delivery Messages) required to continue screening the film have not been provided by the North American distributors, Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas, following the required authorization from the production company, Sun Pictures.”
