Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja has added another international honour to his illustrious career as he was felicitated at the Australian Parliament with a ceremonial stamp commemorating his 50-year journey in cinema. The recognition marks another milestone in a career that has spanned generations and taken his music across borders.

The honour was presented at the Parliament of Victoria in Melbourne, with Victorian Finance Minister Enver Erdogan MP and other members of Parliament in attendance. The special stamp was released as part of celebrations marking Ilaiyaraaja’s five decades in the film industry.
Sharing a video from the event on social media, the veteran composer expressed his gratitude to the Australian government and the Parliament. Reflecting on his journey from Tamil Nadu to receiving recognition in Australia, he described the moment as deeply moving.

“Being born in a small, remote village in Tamil Nadu and honored in an Australian Parliament is truly touching,” Ilaiyaraaja said. He also thanked the people who contributed to his musical journey, including fellow artistes and generations of listeners who have continued to embrace his compositions.
On his 5 decade long jounrey
The Australian recognition comes as Ilaiyaraaja marks 50 years as a film composer. To celebrate the milestone, he has been taking his music to audiences around the world through a series of live concerts. His golden jubilee tour began in July and has included performances across North America. His Australia schedule includes a concert in Sydney on September 26, followed by a performance in Brisbane on October 5.
The composer was also felicitated by the Tamil Nadu government in September 2025 at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to commemorate his five-decade journey in cinema. The latest honour adds to the celebrations surrounding his long-standing contribution to Indian film music.
Ilaiyaraaja has also recently been in the news following the selection of the Marathi thriller Gondhal as India’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars. The film features music composed by him, bringing his work into the spotlight once again as the movie enters the international awards race.
Meanwhile, Ilaiyaraaja’s music will also be heard in director Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming film Dorothy, starring Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth and Sananth. The film is scheduled to release on September 25.
As he continues his global concert tour, the Australian Parliament honour serves as a notable recognition of Ilaiyaraaja’s five-decade contribution to cinema and his enduring musical legacy.
