Jailer 2: Rajinikanth-starrer not delayed, makers confirm release date

The makers of Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 have finally put the release-date rumours to rest by confirming the  final release date on social media. The confirmation comes amid recent reports suggesting that makers were considering reshooting since Rajinikanth was allegedly unhappy with some portions. The makers have revealed that the highly anticipated sequel is still on track to release in theatres on October 15, 2026, as originally announced.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 release date confirmed
Dismissing the reports of the film being postponed without directly mentioning the reports, Sun Pictures, which is backing the film, shared a social media post featuring a poster of Rajinikanth holding a gun. The poster also mentioned the October 15 release date along with the line, “Alappara Kelapparom.”

The phrase is a familiar one for fans of the first film from the franchise. The phrase is a part of the chart-topping track Hukum, from the original film, which went on to become one of its biggest hits.
Recently, speculation about possible Jailer 2 reshoots raised questions over the delay in the film’s release. However, the production team has hinted that there is no change to the schedule. Now, the makers have put an end to all rumours with the latest release date confirmation. The film had wrapped up its shoot back in April 2026.
Box office clash
Notably, Jailer 2’s October 15 release falls during the Dussehra holiday period, which has raised the expectations that the film could enjoy a massive festive opening. However, it must be noted that the Dussehra window is shaping up to be a crowded one at the box office, especially for South cinema.
With Jailer 2 scheduled to release on October 15, the film will face competition from Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali as well as Dhanush’s Om, both of which are scheduled to release a day later, that is, on October 16. This will potentially set an intense clash over the festive weekend. Similarly, Bollywood’s Prahaar, starring Rajkummar Rao, is also scheduled to release on October 16, 2026.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is currently in its post-production stage. Meanwhile, the film has already bagged the biggest OTT deal for a Tamil film ahead of its release.
