Mammootty reflects on wealth, says Mukesh Ambani earns more for `pleasure`

During a recent interaction, he explained that the desire to keep striving is a natural human instinct. Drawing a comparison, he said, “Why do these politicians, even when they are 90 or 100, still want to be in politics? Why does Mukesh Ambani continue to make so much money?”

Clarifying his point, the actor added, “It’s not for him… he’s not going to use all the money he’s making. It’s for the pleasure they get.” He further emphasised that he wasn’t directly comparing himself to Ambani but was instead highlighting a broader truth about human behaviour.
“I am not comparing myself to Ambani here. All I am saying is, it’s human. Whatever you have, you will need more. That is greed,” Mammootty noted, offering a candid take on ambition and the constant pursuit of more.
The actor’s remarks came as part of a larger conversation about how he has managed to stay passionate about acting even after 55 years in the industry. Despite having nothing left to prove, Mammootty continues to take on challenging roles and experiment with his craft.
In recent years, he has delivered critically acclaimed performances in films like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Rorschach, and Kaathal The Core, consistently pushing creative boundaries. His willingness to evolve and explore new narratives has helped him remain relevant across generations.
On his mindset towards wealth and ambition
Mammootty’s comments shed light on a mindset that goes beyond material success. For him, the drive to keep working stems from an intrinsic passion rather than external rewards. By referencing figures like Mukesh Ambani, he illustrated how the pursuit of excellence or even excess is often fueled by personal satisfaction rather than necessity.
Ultimately, his reflections underline a universal truth: ambition doesn’t necessarily fade with success. Instead, it often transforms into a deeper pursuit of purpose, growth, and fulfilment whether in business, politics, or cinema.
Even after decades in the spotlight, Mammootty continues to challenge himself, proving that passion, not just achievement, is what sustains a long and meaningful career.
